Lets face it, anyone can purchase a chainsaw and start a tree trimming business, but to achieve the ISA Certified Arborist certification it takes at least 3 years of experience in the tree service industry. Additionally, an individual is required to take an extensive comprehensive examination and once achieving the ISA Certified Arborist certification they must complete 30 continuing education units every three years to maintain their certification. ISA Certified Arborists must operate in accordance with the ISA Certified Arborist Code of Ethics or all certifications will be revoked immediately if they are found to be in violation.
Be weary of people advertising that they are an "arborist." We see so many trees that have been trimmed incorrectly, by leaving stubs or topping, by some of the very people who claim they are "arborists." Often times when we are called to remove a dying tree, we diagnose that the need for removal is due to improper pruning or topping, performed by unexperienced and uneducated tree companies.
